Locations
Lump of Clay comes from orange-brown clay deposits, found widely in the Revelwood. Bring a pickaxe and mine the deposit itself. Brown ground alone is not enough to identify the resource: check the item name after your first few swings.
For a named starting landmark, use Diadwyn, a village in the Revelwood with mapped clay deposits nearby. This is a convenient search area, not a claim that it is the fastest spot for every base or character.
Open the Diadwyn location page and the Lump of Clay deposit listing before leaving. On the item page, choose “Where to mine Lump of Clay” for deposits; loose item locations are a different list.
Diadwyn deposit map
Find the DIADWYN village name near the centre of this map. The brown-ringed icons around it are Lump of Clay deposits on the selected mining layer. They are separate from the village label and from loose-item pickup markers.
Open the Diadwyn clay layer ↗. Select a deposit and inspect its surface or underground information before choosing an approach. The map is a search reference, not a traced walking route or proof that every marker is easy to reach.
Before you go
- A repaired pickaxe. Check durability before travelling. A spare is useful if you plan to mine a large amount.
- Food and a Rested buff. Mining and moving both compete for your time and stamina. Prepare at home using the beginner checklist.
- Inventory space. Leave room for the clay rather than arriving with a backpack full of building pieces.
- A return route. Use an unlocked fast-travel point where practical. A Glider helps with travel, but this route does not require an advanced gliding skill.
- A target quantity. For the Kiln recipe below, your first clay target is 10. Other recipes may need more.
Entering the wider Revelwood does not mean every path through it is suitable for your current progression. If the route crosses Shroud you cannot survive, use a safer surface approach or return after strengthening the Flame.
Mining route
- Reach the Revelwood. If you have unlocked the Ancient Spire in the Revelwood, use it as a travel starting point. Otherwise follow the paths you have already explored into the biome.
- Locate Diadwyn on the linked map. Choose a nearby clay deposit identified as being at the surface. Avoid confusing a loose item marker or an underground location with an exposed mining deposit.
- Plot an approach from your position. Prefer visible roads and accessible ground over a straight glide into unexplored terrain. Look for a way back as you travel.
- Inspect the mapped area. Look along exposed ground and rock faces for the orange-brown clumps. The map narrows the search; the resource you collect confirms the deposit.
- Mine a small test amount. Check that Lump of Clay appears in your inventory. Continue only after confirming the item, then stop when you have the quantity you came for.
- Return and craft. Store the clay at home and check the complete recipe before making another trip.
You found the right material when: the inventory count for Lump of Clay increases as you mine. If you are only collecting Stone or Dirt, inspect another part of the exposed deposit or choose another mapped clay location.
Use the linked deposit map alongside the landscape in front of you. Confirm the resource name when you mine, and mark an accessible deposit on your in-game map for the next trip.
Recognize the deposit
In this frame, look for the orange-brown patches and clumps in the rock face ahead of the character. No blue pickaxe targeting overlay is covering them yet. The following mining scene confirms that the material being collected is Lump of Clay.
The creator describes this as a Revelwood clay location, but does not identify it as Diadwyn. These stills illustrate recognition and collection; they do not show the exact deposit marked on the Diadwyn map above.
Confirm Lump of Clay
After a test swing, look for Lump of Clay in the pickup notification. In the example below, the left-hand list also includes Revelwood Stone. Hitting nearby rock can collect another material, so the name is a more reliable check than the surrounding terrain.
The blue circle is the pickaxe's targeting overlay, not the natural colour of the clay. The displayed count is an example from the creator's session, not a guaranteed yield for one swing. Keep mining only after you have confirmed the correct item.

The Kiln
The Carpenter's Kiln is used for fired bricks and clay or ceramic items. Its purpose is different from the Blacksmith's metal-smelting stations. Collecting clay does not by itself unlock every station that uses it.
Rescue the Carpenter and follow his crafting progression, then check the Kiln recipe in his menu:
| Material | Amount for one Kiln |
|---|---|
| Revelwood Stone | 50 |
| Lump of Clay | 10 |
| Metal Scraps | 10 |
| Twigs | 2 |
These materials are listed in the Kiln reference. The clay used to build the station is separate from any clay needed for the items you intend to produce in it. Bring extra only after checking those recipes.
Troubleshooting
Missing deposits
Confirm that you selected a deposit, then check whether it is at the surface. Search the nearby exposed terrain rather than digging directly down from a loose-item marker. If the location is awkward or already mined, pick another surface deposit from the same listing.
Missing recipe
Check that you have rescued the Carpenter and completed the relevant crafting objectives. The recipe belongs to that survivor's progression; carrying the material does not replace the quest requirements.
Repeat visits
Do not plan this first trip around a promised instant reset. The steps here are to locate a deposit and collect a useful amount, without requiring a relogging trick or a particular server's reset behaviour. Mark a second deposit if you need more later.
